My 1000 day xanga post .. WOOT!
PUBLIC HEALTH WARNING:
For the good of all and asunder, I feel it my duty to warn you all about rampant Fijjians who offer Paw paw skins to you.
Ok, considering the blank look on your face, I shall start from the beginning ......
Today I worked as the floater in the Child Care Centre. The floater is the person who goes from room to room to relieve staff so they can have their morning tea and lunch at the respective times. I LOVE this job! I get to rev the kids up for the short time i visit every room .. get to do things like make a capital R look like a pirate, because pirates say 'rrrrrrrrrrr' too .... oh .. and teaching 2 - 3 year olds how to do the actions to Right in Right out Right up Right down .. then making them go REAL fast as i watch their brains explode ... chasing 1-2 yo's with a macaw puppet that honks just the right way when you press the beak together in certain ways and watch them giggle and giggle when the 'macaw' tickles them or takes their ball to bounce ... lying down in the middle of a group of babies and letting them go to town in investigating your face .. now THAT is fun .. if you dont mind drool .. and them taking samples of your hair away with them. (Hey, i reckon its only fair .. after all, we get to keep the contents of each nappy when they are done with it ............. blink ... erm ....... yeah ... anyhow ....)
So, I finished work at 2:30pm today which is nice and early, so i decided after seeing one of the other girls hoggin .. erm .. delicately eating a chocolate bar, that i should go to the staff room and check out what was there. Yes, i gave in to the urge and after signing out for the day went walkies back up to the school to do the business i had to do about pays and new bank accounts and breaking the news to my after school care boss that i am working this week all in the child care centre again and on and on and on. I was in the OSHC room, breaking said news to Viv, when my dear frrrrrrriend .. hmmm ... Viqua comes in and gives me a lovely big hug. I sit back down to chat with the girls as they prepare for our kids .. sigh .. miss them so bad ....... :( ......... when Viqua pulls out this bag with Fijjian written all over it. She goes, "Here Narelle, try some dried paw paw skin. Its yuuummy!"
I can hear that horrid chicks voice right now ..
Mind you ..i had JUST finished my last mouthful of chocolate so had that wonderful sweet, rich aftertaste still lingering joyously in my mouth.
"Ok," says poor gullible Narelle, thinking to herself, "If i am going to be eating bugs and spiders next year, then how bad can paw paw skin be .. maybe a bit tart but ..."
Oh .. i was SOOOOOOOO wrong! Needless to say .. when someone rings me to ask about Viqua for a reference .. I am going to be MIGHTY tempted to tell them about this!!!
THE STUFF IS ABSOLUTELY RIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It tastes as if the manufacturers dry the paw paw in baking soda/powder for months for it to taste THAT salty and THAT rancid!
Man, and the worst part of it .. you know how you will taste something and your stomach goes .. BLEEEEEERK, now down HERE you dont ... but you just cant help yourself .. you HAVE to taste it again to make certain that its really THAT bad. Then you think .. well .. maybe i can get used to it .. so you take more.
Honey? It doesnt get ANY better ... EVER! .. believe me.
And here is my dear *said through clasped teeth* sweet friend, laughing heartily away at me.
"Come now Miss Narelle .. just toss the rest in your mouth and swallow .. you will be fiiiiiiine"
Needless to say .. the child is OFF my Christmas card list!
EDIT: paw paws
the female plant ... male plant ...
Strangely .. you dont NEED both plants to have good fruit .. but if you have do they are the female is way sweeter .. grins.

the more seeds the sweeter the fruit ..
oh .. and apparently it is seen as the new cancer killer ...

There .. now we understand?

EEWwwww! That sounds awful. Note to self: avoid pawpaw skins.
We had a young lady from China come to live with us for two point five incredibly long weeks. She was just hitting the depths of culture shock. We took her one weekend to the China Town area of Dallas and just let her go. She was our guide and I tild her I would try anything she reccomended. The worst of all was a candy she adored from home. We found it in the World Market. It is some concoction made of peach pits and armpits and steeped in a tar pit. I was driving when I tried it. Big mistake. I spit it violently out of my wondow. So violently in fact that I forgot my wondow was rolled up. Oh. My. Goodness. She is soooo not on my Christmas card list.
I am thinking of you, friend.

At the expense of revealing my "ignorance" what are paw paw skins? I never heard of them, but I really wish you would have been on video camera so that you could share it on xanga. Facial expresions are so fun to watch when things like that happen.
LOL! Sounds lovely. Uhh, Narelle, this might sound kinda stupid, but what are paw paws? I've never heard of them before (not that I'd care for them *grin*).
Sounds like I'm not the only American who thinks "those things" should be called Papaya. Seriously,, how you Aussies can mess with words!! To my way of thinking paw paws are potatoes.
That SO sounds like something I would do.
So being way down yonder in the paw paw patch and picking' up paw paws puttin' them in my pockets, isn't a good idea?!
@mcbery - Well firstly dear, WEARING pockets on ANY article of clothing the size of which could fit a whole pawpaw into .. is NOT exactly elegant ..
Secondly .. pawpaw in ones pocket could mean for some rather interesting washing as the mush seeps through the weave of ANY material!
*winks*
@dxigal - Well Tannie, lets allow an expert the last say on this topic, shall we?
'Consumers have long been confused about the difference between these fruit and the fact is that while they are the same species Carica papaya, the fruit known as papaya looks and tastes quite different to the fruit known as papaw.
To make things easier for consumers the agreed understanding in the Australian industry is that the red-fleshed sweeter fruit is called red papaya, while the yellow-fleshed fruit is called yellow papaw.
American pawpaw (note the different spelling) on the other hand is an entirely different fruit not related to the tropical Carica papaya from which Australian red papaya and yellow papaw come. American pawpaw is also known as ‘poor man’s banana’ and is the fruit of the Asimina triloba tree.
To complicate things further, there’s also green papaya, which is either red papaya or yellow papaw picked green. Green papaya is a sought after ingredient in Asian cuisine and is eaten as a vegetable.'
Well, I was gonna say those things looks like papayas but seeing as how you'd just tell me Iz confused I won't say so. ;)
